Get ready to swing into summer with the Swing Summit 2024 Summer Retreat! Join us from July 19 to 21, 2024, at the Sunshine Valley RV Resort & Cabins, located at 14850 Alpine Blvd., Sunshine Valley, BC V0X 1L5, for a fantastic weekend filled with swing dancing, workshops, live music, and more.

What's Included:

• Accommodations are not included.  You will need to contact Sunshine Valley for options or locate an AirBnB locally. 
• 3 Days of Workshops: Choose from over 8 classes, including Balboa, Lindy Hop, Shag, and more. Select from 4 intermediate/advanced classes, 4 beginner classes, and some all-levels classes. Learn from expert instructors Rusty Frank, a legendary dancer from Los Angeles, and Ben White, a renowned instructor from Seattle.
• 3 Nights of Dances: Enjoy swing dancing every night, with a live band performance by the Lounge Hounds.
• Saturday Pool Party and BBQ: Spend Saturday by the pool for a fun-filled day of swimming and relaxation. The BBQ  includes a burger or hotdog, watermelon, and a drink.
• Silent DJ After Hours: Stick around Saturday night for the Battle of the DJs, a silent disco experience where you can switch between multiple channels to hear your favorite swing tunes.
• Sunday Night Dance in Abbotsford: Conclude the weekend with a final night of dancing in Abbotsford.

• No Refunds: If you cannot attend, you are responsible for selling your ticket.
• Financial Assistance: If you are struggling financially but are passionate about learning the joy of dance, please contact us for options. The Suburban Swing Initiative is dedicated to including everyone, regardless of financial struggles. Each request for assistance is assessed based on individual need, with confidentiality guaranteed. Your information will not be shared.
• Bring Your Own Food and Towels. Except for the BBQ on Saturday, meals are not provided.
• Please Bring Your Own Sleeping Bag.
• Pool and Hot Tub: Available all day and into the evening unless being cleaned.

Instructors:

Rusty Frank is a prominent figure in the dance community, renowned for her expertise in tap dancing and swing dancing, particularly Lindy Hop. She has dedicated her career to preserving and promoting vintage dance styles, sharing her passion with a wide range of audiences. As an instructor, choreographer, and author, Rusty has contributed significantly to the revival and continued popularity of these classic dance forms. Through her teaching, performances, and written works, she has inspired countless dancers and helped keep these traditions alive.

Ben White from Seattle is a renowned swing dance instructor, competitor, and choreographer known for his extensive experience in Lindy Hop and other forms of swing dance. With a strong presence in the Seattle swing dance community, Ben White has gained recognition for his high-energy teaching style and unique choreography. He often participates in dance workshops, competitions, and performances, both locally and internationally. Additionally, Ben has contributed to the growth of swing dance by co-founding dance events and fostering a welcoming environment for dancers of all skill levels.

Justine Robinson is a prominent figure in the local swing dance community, known for her involvement with Suburban Swing, a dance organization in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada. As a skilled swing dancer and instructor, Justine plays a significant role in promoting and nurturing the swing dance scene in her region. Justine Robinson's contributions help foster a welcoming and inclusive community for dancers to connect and grow. Through her work with Suburban Swing, she has become a key figure in sustaining the vibrancy of the local swing dance scene.

Jason Starr is a notable figure in the swing dance community, recognized for his involvement with J & J Productions and Suburban Swing.  Jason Starr has played a significant role in promoting and sustaining swing dance culture in the region. Through J & J Productions, Jason Starr has been involved in organizing various swing dance events, workshops, and performances. As a part of Suburban Swing, he contributes to providing weekly workshops and creating a welcoming environment for dancers of all skill levels. His dedication to the swing dance community has made him a respected leader and organizer, fostering the growth and vibrancy of swing dance in British Columbia.
