  • Class 7  330pm     Jean Veloz & Ray Phelps (her brother) moves & styling (Intermediate) Jean & Rusty & Ron

Jean and her younger Ray Phelps grew up dancing together.  They entered and won many swing dance competitions in California, and it was the result of winning one of these contests that Jean Veloz got the featured dance role in "Swing Fever." Jean still loves dancing with her brother.

Take it from Rusty, he is one of the smoothest and most musical dancers with whom she's ever danced.  We will be focusing on moves that these two love to do and have made their signature steps.

  • Class 8  445pm Musicality (Intermediate) Rusty & Ron

The old saying "Dancing is music made visible" is what makes Lindy Hop something special.  We as swing dancers make our dancing reflect the music.  But how do we do it?  How do we interpret the music right at the moment we are dancing?  In this class you'll get some "inside" ideas that will really get your more connected to the music while you're dancing - even if you've never heard the song before!    Open to all levels.

Sunday Evening Dance

  • 730 pm-1130 pm
  • Cost: $15 for all dancers
  • Theme: Swing Rock - (Rockabilly)
  • Live band : Johnny Ferreira

  • Johnny Ferreira is a Canadian who just released his newest album, Rock & Roll Saxophonist.  Previously Ferreira worked with The Colin James Little Big Band where he was featured in a horn section that included Roomful of Blues alumni and members Greg Piccolo, Doug James, Rich Lataille, Bob Enos, and Carl Querfurth. This is Ferreira's fourth album and on it he has focused on an early Rock 'n' Roll sound. Ferreira states the "Roll" comes from Jump Blues or Swing and it differentiates this music from "Rock."

RON CAMPBELL

Ron Campbell started swing dancing with his wife, Robin, in February 1996. After a brief introduction to swing through a city Ballroom course (preparing for the "first dance" at their wedding later that year), Ron was hooked. He had found a means of expression for his joy for the music of 20s, 30s & 40s. Ron actually had to talk Robin into taking their first swing dance lessons. They never looked back.

Over the years, Ron has studied many forms and styles of swing dancing; East Coast, Lindy Hop (Savoy & Smooth), Balboa & Collegiate Shag to name a few

Ron was one of the founding members of the Swing Shift Rhythm Club that performs regularly for local hospitals and institutions.

Ron is a member of the Hollywood Hornets, 3-time Team Division National Jitterbug Champions (2002, 2004, 2005). He and Robin also took 1st Place in the Preliminary Round of the 2002 Great Southwest Club Swing-Off at the Rhythm Club.

Ron began teaching Tuesday night Lindy By The Sea classes with Rusty on January 6th 2003. He and Rusty developed two unique programs, The Track Series (a six-month program for intermediate Lindy Hoppers) and The Master Track (a personalized program on musicality and styling for intermediate-advanced dancers). The Track Series is now available on DVD in a six-dvd collection.
