I was introduced to swing dancing just after my grade 10 year. I was quickly addicted to the dance. I found Suburban fun and relaxing and a great place to meet some awesome people. I continued to make it out almost every Sunday night even after school started up again.
After graduation I began to get more involved with other styles of dance as well. Blues being one of them, I started attending blues in the city out in Vancouver with a few fellow blues dancers. I developed a love for it and took a few classes being held by Dean and Amanda at the time.
I am also interested in developing my dance skills and learning more dance styles. Dance is apart of who I am, I grew up with music around me. I had been apart of choir in church and also in high school. My parents had put me in a few dance classes when I was younger but I wasn't able to continue due to how expensive it was. Dancing to me is an escape from the world, from life, it is a place where I can focus on the beat and rhythm of the music. To have that one song where all the thoughts and concerns of the day just flutter away.
I started volunteering at Suburban Swing just over a year ago in 2009. The other staff and of course Jason & Crystal have been a pleasure to work with. I look forward to all the many more memories to come at Suburban Swing.
